Vancouver – the Naturally Progressive choice to host the 23rd World Petroleum Congress in 2020.

What do we mean by the Naturally Progressive choice?

Vancouver, the city –  the third most livable in the world according to the Economist Magazine.

British Columbia, the province –  an emerging energy center itself, with new, modern LNG export facilities under consideration.

Canada, the country – 5th largest oil & gas producer in the world with significant production of both conventional and unconventional resources.

Our made-in-Canada Legacy Plan – an ambitious strategic platform to groom a new generation of energy leaders and to benefit all WPC member countries through an enhanced contribution to the WPC Secretariats Legacy Fund.

Canada is a natural fit – as one of the world’s largest oil and gas producers, we understand the importance of the industry. The World Petroleum Congress’s mandate for sustainable management of the world’s petroleum resources align with Vancouver’s “greenest city” goals and the Vancouver Convention Centre’s focus on sustainability. The city has the smallest carbon footprint of any major city in North America, draws 90 percent of its electricity from renewable sources and has set a goal to be the world’s greenest city by 2020.

Vancouver is ranked the top city in North America for international meetings, and our facilities and services are recognized as leaders around the world. Distinctive four- and five-star hotels are located within easy walking distance of the award-winning Convention Centre, all featuring stunning harbour and mountain views. Spectacular natural beauty, easy access, understated elegance and a multicultural flair – it’s no wonder Vancouver has a proven track record for hosting major global events. And we promise that yours will be just as unforgettable.

2020 World Petroleum Congress in Vancouver

Located in the heart of this dynamic city is the Vancouver Convention Centre where everything is easily accessible – 13,000 hotel rooms within walking distance and three world-class connecting hotel properties, and an exciting variety of restaurants, shops and cultural attractions. The centre is also connected by a seawall to a multitude of green spaces including Stanley Park, one of North America’s largest urban parks.

As the only two-time winner of the International Association of Congress Centres’ (AIPC) Apex Award for the “World’s Best Conference Centre” in 2008 and 2002, the Vancouver Convention Centre’s service standards, facilities, project management and technical capabilities are second to none. The entire team of experienced and friendly professionals is dedicated to providing the best possible service to ensure a memorable and successful event.

The 16th World Petroleum Congress in Calgary was an amazing success and demonstrated that the culture of volunteerism in Canada will guarantee a world class event just like the 1988 Olympics in Calgary and the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Vancouver and Canada are ready to do it again!
